Curriculum
Hopkins Learning Center offers two great structured curriculum programs that will mett the needs of children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
Children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old will benefit from The Creative Curriculum for Infant & Toddlers. Like all formal curriculum models, The Creative Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers outlines what children learn during the first three years, the experiences though which children achieve these learning goals, what staff and parents do to help children reach these goals, and the materials needed to support the implementation of the curriculum. For more, see www.TeachingStrategies.com.
Our relationship with the family is central to all that happens in our program. The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers helps as a guide with routines and activities to show what will occur on a day-to-day basis.
Children ages 3 to 5 years old will participate in the SRA Open Court Reading program. For more see www.sra4kids.com.
Open Court Reading Pre-K presents children with rich language experiences through finger plays, rhymes, songs, and poems. Comprehension activities are included in each lesson to help promote understanding of quality literature. In addition Phonological, Phonemic, and Print-Awareness activities are incorporated into each lesson of the program.
Each day, teachers read literature selections, focusing on the unit themes. Teachers can use the observational assessments included in the program for tracking children's progress throughout the program. A parental involvement component is included to help make the classroom/home reading connection.
Baltimore City Public School System and Baltimore County Public School System both use the SRA Open Court Reading Program for the elementary grade levels. Exposure to this curriculum in the childcare setting will help ease your child's transition into the public school system.
